For Artsy Types
The Northwoods is awash with great art. Who knew! Along with all the artful gallery, event and concert options, how about indulging your inner photographer too, staring with some sunrise shots on the shore of Little St. Germain Lake.
Walk In The Woods Art Fair
This annual gathering of talented artists from around the Midwest is usually held during the beginning of June. It’s held in the park behind the St. Germain Chamber of Commerce and features pottery, paintings, photography, handmade jewelry, woodcarvings and furniture. Wine tastings are available too.
Northwoods Arts Tour
We love the first line of copy on this art tour’s website: Poets and philosophers who have suggested that “ art is the right hand of nature” surely had the Northwoods Art Tour in mind. We agree! More than 30 of the area’s finest artists open the doors of their studios and galleries during this late July event. Meet painters, potters, photographers, jewelry artists, furniture makers, fiber artists, even a book binder who does incredible work. This is fine art, at well, it’s finest.
This art fair at Riverside Park in Eagle River brings in over 100 juried artists from all over the country to the Northwoods of Wisconsin for a one-day show held during the mid-part of July.
Held on the grounds of the Land O Lakes Town Hall, this exhibition of fine art and fine crafts include items for show and sale. This event takes place near the end of July.
Artistic Shopping Finds
Make an appointment at Wildlife in Wood in the town of St. Germain where the original bird carvings by artist Barry Benecke are carved life size from a single block of wood or natural log. A typical carving represents hundreds of hours of work. Also take a gander out to the town of Boulder Junction and visit Peeplelures to view and purchase their many selections of homemade jewelry.
Concerts in the Park
On Thursdays during the summertime season, Torpy Park in Minocqua is where local musicians gather to provide music as a gift to the many visitors in the area. That sentiment is music to our ears.
Open Studio Garden Walks
Whataview Farm in the town of Phelps offers free garden walks during July and August – (Please check their website for dates and details). Whataview Farm is a farm/fiber studio where you can tour the expansive gardens, shop, take a seat on the patio and enjoy a glass of cold rhubarb slush. Be sure to saunter into the studio to see spinning and weaving demonstrations by the owner.
The Art of Wine Making
Toast to your good taste at Three Lakes Winery. They’ve been making the “Original Cranberry Wine” since 1972. Brigadoon Winery in Tripoli just turned 10 and just expanded. They use local fruit whenever possible and continue to work on their own vineyard. Take a tour, then enjoy a cheese and sausage tray on the deck with wine by the glass.
