ST. GERMAIN, WI. – The photos and words on the old web site for Black Bear Lodge in St. Germain, Wis. weren’t doing the resort, or the area for that matter, justice. So when the owners and management team set to work on a major web site redesign they thought, why not seize the opportunity to really give visitors a flavor for the area by promoting more than just their own property. The new web site,, which launched today, takes an “if you go” editorial approach by providing recommendations on activities both at the resort and in the greater St. Germain area. Specific itineraries will be added on a regular basis as well, with the first two included with the launch covering traditional winter pursuits in one and active outdoor winter pursuits in the other. For the first 100 people who sign up for the resort’s e-newsletter via the new web site, their name will be entered into a drawing for a weekend getaway to Black Bear Lodge.

This is the first web redesign for this popular resort in some time. Acknowledging that the old content had a “past expiration” feel to it, the new site is easy to browse, serves up all new photos that were shot over the past six months to give visitors a real feel for lodge life, and provides package information and online booking options as well. Yet it’s the content extolling the virtues of the area that should please travelers and local tourism officials alike. The suggestions are specific enough for people to begin planning the northwoods vacation that best suits them, whether that’s an annual snowmobiling or ice fishing weekend, a family getaway that re-creates memories from when mom and dad vacationed in the area as kids, or an “off the grid” escape that’s all about being active in the great outdoors. It’s like an insider’s activity guide for the quintessential Vilas County getaway.
